A few weeks ago my husband, brother-in-law, and a couple my husband's old roomies all spent a week in gorgeous Deer Valley/Park City, UT. I have virtually no photos from it because I took a much needed break from my phone/computer, but I wanted to share a few favorite eats and some tips for anyone else looking to ski in the area!
Eats and Activities
Hands down my absolute favorite place that we ate was Dottie's Kolaches in Heber City, UT. Well worth the ~15 minute drive from Deer Valley, I ended up going 3 times! They only make a certain number of each kolaches each day so make sure to get there at a decent time. Aside from Dottie's, all other restaurants we went to were in Park City and found via Yelp. None were that amazing so I don't want to distract from the kolache goodness :)
So of course the #1 thing to do in Park City/Deer Valley is ski and despite a dry year and hot week, the runs were actually very well maintained. After a couple of days at each, my favorite was Deer Valley for two main reasons: 1) they limit the total number of lift tickets sold each day so it never felt busy and we never waited in line, 2) the runs overall were better kept. Don't get me wrong, I did love many of the runs in Park City, but it was SO much busier and we had issues with rocks/pebbles on multiple runs. However, Deer Valley is ski only, no snowboarders allowed, so plan accordingly.
If you're not in the mood for skiing, I would absolutely recommend checking out the shops in downtown Park City or driving to one of the many hot springs in the area. We wanted a natural hot spring that wasn't commercialized so decided on Saratoga Hot Springs (photos above). If you do the same, be prepared for a lot of mud and small fish, but also very few people, gorgeous surroundings, and very hot water.
