Cat’s out of the bag, we are moving to Des Moines, Iowa! It is quickly approaching in July! I am an Iowa licensed attorney and my husband is graduating residency and taking his first job there. There is a lot of change in store. Omaha has been an incredible place to live. The stress of residency and starting out as a lawyer were made so much better by this wonderful place we call home.
This move is bittersweet, Omaha has a giant piece of my heart. Change is hard, right?! I have lived here for roughly a decade. I’ve made life long friends, started my legal career, and married my best friend all in one city. I’ll never forget that elevator-drop feeling I had when my parents unloaded my things into a shoe-box sized dorm room at Creighton University. I didn’t know anyone and Omaha was a big city compared to where I grew up. It turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me.
Over ten years later, I can say this place feels like home. If you’ve never been, I’d challenge you to visit Omaha before settling on any preconceived notions. There is a thriving culinary scene, talented creatives, unique neighborhoods, and most of all, the most genuine people. I’ll be back for plenty of visits Omaha, you’re not rid of me yet. The good news is, Des Moines has these things as well! I want to go into this next move with the same optimism as I did a decade ago, ready to see what the future holds!
