I've realized for the past few months we have had a lot of focus on style so I wanted to change things up a bit and try out a new DIY: floral arrangements. I'm a complete novice to arranging bouquets but after reading/awing over Color Me Floral I thought I would give it a try with grocery store flowers and a couple of floral tools.
What you need...
Floral Pin Frog (1 inch)
Vase (mine is an old candle from Abby)
1 greenery bouquet (mine contained eucalyptus true blue and silver dollar)
1 bouquet of ranunculus (mine contained multiple colors)
In the dry vase, use the clay to secure the floral pin frog onto the bottom, then add water. I love deconstructed bouquets where the greenery is hanging over the edges so I started with the eucalyptus silver dollars, pushing them into the floral pin. I then added the eucalyptus true blue, and ended with a few pink ranunculus. I love the contrast of the white milk vase and the brightly colored flowers, and the scent is heavenly! I had a TON of greenery and flowers leftover so I tried using the same technique in a large vase and completely failed...
Lessons learned: 1) you do NOT need a pin frog in a tall vase (that should have been a 'duh' but I already had the pin so I tried it any way, hence the ugly frog in the last photos, yikes!), 2) I need larger individual flowers for the larger vase to balance out the vase/hanging greenery. I would love to actually learn how to arrange flowers so I'm looking for a 101 class somewhere in Seattle, but at least I have a basic/easy technique for the meantime!
