Our Omaha Date Night Guide from last year continues to be a popular post so we decided to update it with a 2019 Omaha Date Night Guide! Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so if you need inspiration for a romantic date or a festive Galentine’s we have you covered! We are breaking it down by categories this year. We stand by all of our old favorites listed in THIS POST as well! None of this is sponsored, just honest opinions here.
Let The Games Begin
Spielbound: A perfect spot if you happen to be in a relationship with a board game nerd like myself. Spielbound, board game cafe, has hundreds of board games, pizza, and drinks to make this an official date spot. Try the grown-up butterbeer; you won’t be sorry. A good choice for a daytime or low-key date; it’s easy to talk in this cafe. A few of our favorite games include Pandemic, Settlers of Catan, Game of Thrones Edition, Munchkin, Exploding Kittens, and Ticket to Ride (see, I wasn’t kidding about the board game nerd alert).
Beercade: A decidedly more night time vibe than Speilbound. This truly is a bar, located in the middle of Benson and chockfull of arcade games. They have a huge selection on tap (usually with a seasonal cider) to choose from, as well as a full bar. It can get crowded fast so go before prime bar time if you want more of a conversational atmosphere.
Krug Park: Another Benson gem, if Beercade is a bit loud and crowded for your taste then this is your spot. Krug Park keeps it sexy with flickering candlelight, tightly tucked tables, and a sprawling antique bar. The creaky floorboards and vintage portraits give this bar an eerie charm. The cocktails are handmade and the tap always has several lovely and local choices. P.S. It is Omaha Beer Week so they have several beer-centric events coming up!
Jambo Cat: This Dundee gem of a bar has live jazz 5 nights a week! Most of the music starts around 8 pm so it’s a perfect after dinner spot for a strong cocktail and live jazz for a fairly reasonable price. It is not a large venue so get their a bit early if you can to get a table. It has an intimate atmosphere that is sure to impress any date! The venue keeps it romantic casual and not over the top fancy; you will not be disappointed.
Stirnella: A Blackstone favorite restaurant for several years now. This is an upscale scene but still very approachable. Menu items range from burgers to salads to steak & frites with a whole host of shared plates in between. Stirnella’s bar is a sight to behold with plush leather chairs and ambient lighting to set the mood. Our advice would be to take your valentine here and share several small plates (3-4) for your meal. It’s less intimidating this way and you get to try all that Stirnella has to offer! P.S. Happy Hour is a steal!
Vintage Ballroom: A downtown dance class right in the Old Market, that makes dancing with your partner fun and approachable! We took lessons for our wedding and have nothing but amazing things to say about this place and their staff. Try something new and sign-up for one of their group classes or spring for private lessons, they are all made for novices so relax! It’s a new way to connect with your special someone and learn a life-long skill, dancing!
Mode De Vie: Personally, this polished restaurant is on my wish list for a night out! This fusion spot has upscale bites plus a full list of champs. Looks like the perfect place to take your gals for some bubbly and shared plates. I cannot say I have been yet, but if it is anything like the other restaurants by this restaurant group (Herbe Sainte) it will be delicious with excellent drink options!
Via Farina: Pizza, what could be better? Well now that you ask, oven-fired pizza with the best homemade dough and an Aperol Spritz to go with it! Via Farina is a cozy hollow with a modern Italian vibe just off the Old Market. Pro-tip, get a spot at the bar facing the pizza oven and enjoy your pre-dinner drink while catching the chefs work their magic. You could easily split a pizza and salad with your Galentine!
Alamo Drafthouse: As a movie lover, the Alamo is a lucky theater to have in Omaha with it’s state of the art sound and optics…not to mention the delivered concessions and full menu/bar. Yes, you could just go here to have your dinner and a movie all in one while watching your show. The Alamo is featuring a Parks and Rec Galentines Night if you’re addicted to the show like so many of my girlfriends. Also, they are featuring the Grand Supreme of all Rom-Com’s “You’ve Got Mail” for a Champagne Cinema night.
Film Streams Dundee: This updated theater is a classic for a movie date. I remember waiting on the sidewalk, basically on Dodge Street, for their midnight showings back in the day. Now, it is updated with the best of the best while still keeping it’s small theater charm. Critically acclaimed shows are always playing. Also, Kitchen Table has a restaurant inside the theater perfect for grabbing a quick, yet made from scratch bite before your show. If you want a deal on tickets become a member to support this local theater and all shows are only $5!
